Provincial Grand Senatus
of West Yorkshire
HISTORY OF THE WEST YORKSHIRE PROVINCIAL GRAND SENATUS
Within the annals of The Claro True Friendship Conclave No 4 there is evidence and some details of a Consistory meeting at Harrogate, West Yorkshire in the 1930s under the title of the Northern Consistory of England of Companions of the Royal Order of Masonic Knights of the Scarlet Cord under a warrant dates the first day of Aries 1918.
Following the consecration of The Scarlet Cord Conclave No 500 (now Scarlet Cord Consistory T.I.) in 2006, Scarlet Cord was re-introduced to West Yorkshire with the consecration of The Scarlet Cord Conclave of West Yorkshire No. 538 on 20 October 2009 by R.Wy. Bro. Brian Clifford Wareham, Deputy Grand Supreme Ruler.
Following the constitution of The Ancient and Masonic Order of the Scarlet Cord in the British Isles and Consistories Overseas on 10 July 2010 this became the Calder Vale Consistory No 19 T.I. And West Yorkshire was designated an Inspectorate under the care of the Grand Inspector Distinguished Companion Stewart Glasgow Carley.
It was a requirement for each Inspectorate to have 3 Consistories in order for the Grand Senatus to consider forming the Inspectorate into a Province and thereby followed the task for the original members of Calder Vale Consistory to seek fellow Princes of the Order of the Secret Monitor to achieve this task.
The South Yorkshire Consistory No 92 was consecrated at Tapton Hall, Sheffield, on Thursday 31 October 2013 and the White Rose Consistory No 95 was consecrated at Westbourne House, Otley on 8 May 2014 both by the then Most Distinguished Grand Summus Andrew Christopher Sweeney.
The consecration of White Rose Consistory No 95 was followed immediately by the constitution of the Provincial Grand Senatus of West Yorkshire. with Right Distinguished Companion Graeme Hutchinson appointed, obligated, invested and installed as the first Provincial Grand Summus.
At the meeting of Provincial Grand Senatus on Saturday 23 September 2017 the Most Distinguished Grand Summus returned again at which meeting Right Distinguished Companion John Marrison was appointed, obligated, invested and installed as the second Provincial Grand Summus.
On 17 September 2022 Right Distinguished Companion Alan Paul Kelly Webster was installed as the third Provincial Grand Summus by Most Distinguished Grand Summus Ian Stanley Currans.
